Customer Reviews

While 4Health dog food has many positive reviews, it has its share of negative reviews, just like other big brands. Check out what some customers had to say about this dog food.

Positive

‘’I have a 1yr old Pit Lab mix that I had tried many dry kibbles, and she wouldn’t eat them and was losing weight, so I tried adding canned food which she ate more of but still showed little interest in till I bought 4health lamb and rice canned food, she wolfs this food down like nothing and has put weight on. Her coat looks awesome, and she is so much happier. I have also started using their kibble, and she is doing great. She refuses any other dog food and doesn’t like chicken or beef but hasn’t tried fish yet, so she may try that at some point to mix it up a bit’’.

customer review

Negative

‘’We thought we would try this for our 10-year-old Catahoula/Rottie mix. It made her very sick with diarrhea, and she was very lethargic until we stopped the treats. Going to return it to the store the next time we go there’’.

4Health Dog Food Recalls

The Tractor supply company that owns 4Health dog food does not manufacture the food but allows Diamond Pet Food Inc to produce it. As a result, the brand does not have full control over the production process, which may compromise the quality and safety of the food. This makes the brand prone to possible recalls.

However, since its inception in 2010, 4Health dog food has had very few recalls as follows:

  • In May 2012, the FDA recalled all 4Health dry pet food recipes suspected of possible salmonella contamination. However, the food tested negative for the contamination
  • In March 2013, Diamond Pet Food recalled 4Health’s All Life Stages Cat Formula dry food due to low thiamine levels.
  • In February 2017, 4Health recalled its chicken & rice and lamb and rice formulas due to possible foreign materials in the food.

What is the quality of ingredients in 4Health Dog Food?

4Health uses high-quality, nutritious, and healthy ingredients in all its recipes. It does not include filler ingredients like corn, wheat, soy, artificial colors, and preservatives. Additionally, it uses real meat as the first ingredient in many of its formulas.

Does 4Health Dog Food Products include Chicken?

Yes, 4Health dog food includes chicken as the primary ingredient in some recipes. It also uses chicken meal and chicken liver for enhanced protein levels in its formulas. This is because chicken is a good source of easily digestible proteins that help build lean muscle mass. However, chicken is also a major cause of allergies in dogs.

Are 4Health Dog Foods produced from slaughterhouse waste?

No, 4Health dog food does not include any slaughterhouse waste as the brand only uses high-quality ingredients. Slaughterhouse waste consists of animal remains after all the meat has been removed. This can include beaks, horns, skin, hooves, and other undesirable parts.

Discussion of Most Important Ingredients – Good and Bad

4Health uses high-quality ingredients in its recipes. However, it also includes a few controversial ingredients in some of its products. Check out some of the brand’s ingredients below:

  • Salmon: Besides being an excellent source of high-quality protein, this is also a great source of omega-3 fats that help in improving skin health, boosting immunity, and reducing inflammations. Salmon is especially great for dogs allergic to beef or chicken meat.
  • Chicken and chicken meal: Chicken is a good source of easily digestible proteins packed with essential amino acids to help build healthy muscle mass. Chicken meal provides a concentrated protein source. Both chicken and chicken meals are also good sources of omega-6 fatty acids.

  • Cracked pearled barley: It’s an excellent source of dietary fiber plus minerals such as manganese and magnesium. It also aids in blood sugar level control as it’s hard to digest.
  • Potatoes: When used in moderation, these form great sources of carbohydrates that provide energy to keep dogs active. Potatoes contain minerals and vitamins, including vitamins A, C, B6, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and iron.
  • Peas: These provide additional proteins and some energy for dogs. They are also good fiber sources that keep the digestive system flowing smoothly.
  • Pea flour: Besides providing additional sources of plant-based proteins, pea flour is also rich in iron, calcium, and fiber.
  • Egg product: This is made from egg whites and egg yolks and provides a rich source of easily digestible proteins as well as fatty acids.
  • Fruits and vegetables: These include apples, spinach, broccoli, carrots, dried kelp, and cranberries. These pack lots of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.

Controversial ingredients

These are some of the less desirable ingredients in 4Health dog food:

  • Beet pulp: While it’s a good source of fiber, this is considered a cheap filler as it’s a by-product of the sugar beet industry
