A slanted dog house has many benefits. But how do you build it?
Benefits of a slanted doghouse
Here are some of the benefits of a slanted doghouse:
- There is a natural airflow for better ventilation.
- A slanted roof improves insulation.
- It gives your yard a beautiful look.
Overview of the Building Process
Materials:
You will need the following materials:
- Hammer.
- Measuring tape.
- Table saw.
- Nails.
- Circular saw.
- ½ inch plywood sheet.
- 10 feet of 2 by 4-inch lumber.
- 8 feet of 2 by 4-inch lumber.
Construction:
- Keep the doghouse length at 1 ½ times your dog’s body.
- Ensure the width is ¾ of your dog’s body.
- Raise the ceiling by approximately 25% over your pup’s head height.
- Ensure the door is 2-3 inches more expansive than your pup’s.
- Cut the board (10-foot) into four parts: two 20 ¾ -inch (front/back) pieces, two 22 ⅞ -inch (sides) pieces, and four 6-inch (leg) pieces.
- Attach the legs, using nails, to the inner sections.
- Attach the front and rear components using nails.
- Slice a section of plywood over the floor and fasten it to the finished components.
- Divide the eight feet of lumber into two-by-two-inch pieces.
- Cut those pieces into 4 pieces, each measuring 12 ½ inches.
- Nail them vertically within the side corners.
- Cut the back and front to measure 27 by 22 inches, with an incline of 11 inches at the top and the sides to measure 25 ⅞ by 16 inches each using the plywood.
- Maintain an angle of 60 degrees between the front and back.
- Make a 16-by-3-inch aperture at the front to accommodate the door.
- After assembling these parts for the frame, firmly fasten everything with nails.
- Cut 2 roof panels (each 21 ⅞ inches by 31 inches).
- Fasten the remaining two-by-two-inch timber pieces to the rear and front panel tops.
- The parts on the back and front panels should come together at the triangle’s apex.
- One of the roof panels should have a piece of 2-by-2-inch board, 22 inches long, affixed to the top.
- Nailing the panel to the wooden frame above the front and rear panels will secure it to the doghouse.
- Using the same technique, put the other roof panel in place.
Finishing Touches:
You can add paint or sealant and customize the doghouse according to your preferences.
