Positive

‘’He’s a picky boy and lost a lot of weight not eating; I was recommended this food by y daughter and just like that he’s a chunky guy again. He loves all the different flavors and gets so excited to eat. I put a raw egg and a scoop of canned pumpkin now and then, and he’s in heaven’’

 Customer review

‘’I have a 14-year-old standard poodle, and I’ve been feeding her Pure Balance dog food for many years. That dog runs and jumps like a 6year old dog! I highly recommend this food’’

Customer review

Negative

‘’I give this food 1 star. I’ve been feeding my dogs another dog food for years, decided to upgrade a bit. They love the taste, and it helped them digest food. Helped my picky eaters. But after a month of using it, she was sent to the hospital because this food gave her crystals that they said were pretty much kidney stones that can lead to surgery. And ended up with a UTI. Ended up being a big hospital bill’’

Pure Balance Recalls

While Ainsworth, the production company for Pure Balance dog food, has had some recalls in the past, this brand has recorded no recall on any of its products since its inception in 2012. This speaks well of the brand’s commitment to maintaining the safety and quality of its products. Pure Balance has kept its promise of providing high-quality nutrition for dogs at all life stages.

What is the quality of ingredients in Pure Balance Dog Food?

Pure Balance takes pride in using only high-quality, natural, and human-grade ingredients sourced from credible sources in the  US and worldwide. The brand does not include by-products and fillers like soy, wheat, corn, artificial flavors, preservatives, and colors. All Pure Balance recipes feature real meat as the primary ingredient.

Does Pure Balance Dog Food Products include Chicken?

Yes, Pure Balance includes chicken as the primary ingredient in some recipes. It also uses chicken meal and chicken liver for enhanced protein levels in its formulas. This is because chicken is a good source of easily digestible proteins that help build lean muscle mass. However, chicken is also a major cause of allergies in dogs.

Are Pure Balance Dog Foods produced from slaughterhouse waste?

No, Pure Balance product includes any slaughterhouse waste as the brand only uses high-quality ingredients. Slaughterhouse waste consists of animal remains after all the meat has been removed. This can include beaks, horns, skin, hooves, and other undesirable parts.

Discussion of Most Important Ingredients – Good and Bad

While Pure Balance uses high-quality ingredients in its recipes, it also includes other not-so-great ingredients. Check out the brand’s ingredients below:

  • Chicken and chicken meal: Chicken is an excellent source of biologically appropriate proteins that dogs need to build and maintain healthy muscle mass.
  • Chicken meal: Pure Balance also includes chicken meal which is made from processed chicken and includes
  • Lamb: This provides an excellent source of easily digestible proteins that dogs need to build and maintain strong muscles.
  • Bison: This novel protein source is ideal for dogs with sensitivities to the common chicken or beef proteins.
  • Sweet potatoes are excellent sources of easily digestible carbs, vitamins B6 and C, manganese, and beta-carotene.
  • Ground peas: These legumes provide additional sources of plant-based proteins plus other nutrients like manganese, phosphorus, and lots of fiber. Peas are good for the heart, eye, and skin care.
  • Carrots: Carrots are low-calorie but fiber-rich vegetables that are great for digestive and oral health. They are also packed with beta-carotene, vitamin C, and other antioxidants that promote immune health.
  • Pea protein: This provides a cheap and readily available way of upping the protein content in dog food. It is a good source of plant-based proteins.
  • Folic acid: It strengthens cell membranes and boosts cellular integrity in dogs.
  • Tapioca: This helps improve the taste and texture of kibble and is also a wonderful source of fiber that promotes digestion.
  • Brown rice: This provides a healthy source of carbohydrates necessary for energy provision. While brown rice is high in nutrients, it’s hard for dogs to digest.
  • Salmon meal: Pure Balance includes salmon meal to provide the necessary amino acids to help build healthy muscles and improve eye health.

Controversial ingredients

The not-so-good ingredients in Pure Balance dog food include:

  • Poultry fat: Fats are essential in energy provision, which fuels a dog’s activities and keep it healthy. However, the fat source should be specifically named. Pure Balance does not name the exact bird from which it sources its fats. This makes it possibly lower in quality.
  • Beet Pulp: While this is a good source of fiber, beet pulp in very large amounts can cause gastrointestinal issues.
